Alertness Ascends
A little allegory of Fear, Alterness, Rest, and Anxiety.
Fear, roused by a monstrous roar from within the forest, screams loudly from within the royal tent. As ruler, Fear has never slept well.
Alertness, Fear’s most loyal servant hears this; runs to the scene; scans quickly, then proceeds to stand guard.
The monster has left, though Alertness is blessed with undying memory and an innate sense of duty. Scanning the edges of the firelight, Alertness is filled with sentinel purpose.
Fear stops screaming and is able to return to the royal bed, though filled with dread; is cursed with dreams of death, and the promise of disruption.
Rest, gently touches Alertness on the shoulder to offer relief, and is shrugged off repeatedly.
Alertness will not be denied. As time passes, their dutiful diligence is rewarded by Fear with the title of ANXIETY.
And Fear, though not able to rest or ever leave the royal tent, rewards ANXIETY for continuing to delay death at the hands of the monster that never arrived.

ANXIETY. Ha, yup. Alertness has its place, sure, but it's so often displaced by ANXIETY. You got it.
the monster has arrived, tho.
and we know that it is us.
